need your help/ideas/input

I would like to make a pair of these. Spring struts.

to buy them they are $150.00 and they are eye to eye. I need eye to clevis and I don't have an extra $150.00 clams. I do however have a couple of spare pairs of eye to clevis shocks. Do you think this is something that collectively we could build? I know with all the welders in the crew we could bang out some nice struts, but to incorporate a spring? please help me, I'm desperate.

oh, and for the record, the rougher, rustier, and generally rough around the edges, the better...

We could replace more than half the length of the spring of a shock with a sleeve, and maybe replace what's left with really stiff generic springs from madison springs.

Thats a great idea. I'm not really desperate, that was just a failed attempt at humor (not the first, def not the last...).
What I do want is 9.5 to 10" shocks. I currently have 11's and lowering blocks, frankly, I don't trust the lowering blocks. They move around. A lot.
I would be happy with a little travel, not much as it will be low, but a tiny bit would be nice..

this weekend I'll see if I can figure out how to take apart a shock without getting a spring in my eye.

looking forward to your findings. When I get the shock broken down I'll put up some pics to help with the visualization.
