One of the few bikes I would leave mostly stock.

It would most definitely have to go under the knife...but I would be respectful enough and make it so it went back to stock if it ever needed to.

Oh man, I've been in love with these for a while too. Some dude was on one at the last Crud Run I went too and I told him how cool I thought his bike was. He had no idea that it was a somewhat sought after bike. The sound of of the v-twin on a sport bike is rad. Very pricey tough. A dude I work with in WI has one too.

I guess your ton ride on the VFR has inspired you! I would not change a thing about the RC51 except its purchase price. And possibly the HEY LOOK AT ME I WILL TELL YOU WHAT I AM paint job.

You do understand the more people say what they would or wouldnt do only encourages me more to disobey...I'm like a bad dog in that respect;)

I'd fighter the crap out of one and it'd be my perfect bike. I actually decided to get one once, then found out it gets 29 mpg. I can't live with bad mileage.

I love me some v-twin sportbikes! I've owned a TLR and a Superhawk and Aaron is right, they both ate through tanks of gas in a hurry.

That's too bad, i had hope for the tlr. Ktm twins are bad too, and my 2v duc only gets 33mpg. I'm hoping to improve it.

My V-4 got 45 with the fairings on, it now gets 38 or so but needs some tuning so that might improve. The wooden frame sliders added 5 mpg easy.

All motorcycles are a compromise.

Before the RC51, Honda's superbike platform was the RC45 V4 which was only sold in small numbers in some other country, so it was unobtainable exotic race stuff. When the RC51 came out people were excited that they could buy Honda's top production race platform for $10k, and that it was an "RC" and not a cbr. If all hondas had rc numbers, american sportbike fans didnt know it. Then Honda finally beat Ducati out of a world sbk championship, so this thing sold well for plenty of years. There are tons of them out there now and they're old enough now to not be expensive. The TLR is probably a lot more rare because it wasn't very good and never won anything. Strangely, suzuki raced the gsxr750 at the same time they raced the TL1000R. When it was still 1000cc twins vs 750cc fours, I was following sbk very closely. I even got cable just for race coverage.
