Cream City Trip

Loaded up a few cars and a van that held 8 and rolled out to Cream City Skatepark in Milwaukee this past Tuesday for the after sesh. I brought along my little Flip HD video camera and this is my attempt at making a short video of our fun. There was about 20-25 of us from Madison and we had the park all to ourselves. Friends originally from Madison area now living all over Cali, Iowa, Texas, and Australia are in town for the holidays so a few of us have been working up this plan to get us all together and skate while they are here. It felt great to skate again...haven't been able to since the winter has rolled in. Thanks Blake for the info that I already had software on my computer to make these! iMovie works great...

I don't think so. Kris got me this on dvd for xma$. It's really good, and it's on netflix now. I highly recommend it. Yes, I know, Bansky is as cliche' as period correct choppers, trucker hats, and pbr, but he's got people talking and noticing art, good art. Again, recommended from me, not that means much, but what-ev's. Aaron, you should come over and watch it. Inspiration.

The Road

This is a route I could take if I get up the nerve to take a long trip on the old GS this spring. Starting in Madison, following the river for awhile to visit relatives who live in Ozark back country, then on to Tuscaloosa to hang out with a drunken poet, then meandering home. I'd probably not stick quite as tight to the interstate as this map suggests. I keep running it through my head and chickening out and then hardening the fuck back up. 1800 miles and I figure I can get 9 days off work, so that's only 20 miles a day, right? Wait...carry the 2...oh hell

...how much easier it is to lace wheels when you're not drunk. I haven't taken a pic of the finished product, I'll take one tomorrow. I'll get the wheel trued, rim strap, tire and tube put on this coming week.

A different kind of horsepower

1975 Peavey Classic 50. As money gets replenished and begs to be spent, I'll replace a couple of the tubes (6l6's) and I'm fiddling with the controls getting it dialed, but man, this mamba jamba got's some cajones. Reacts alot like my old Music Man 212, but this breaks up creamier and earlier. So far I like it, I think I got an ok deal, not a steal, but certainly decent. It's pretty loud and has a spring reverb and a tremolo. fun stuff.

This is my Uncle Ron (on the left in the picture below). He's always been into small displacement Honda's from way back. Just thought I would post these up just because he has always had some sort of bike. The CM400 on the bottom he just bought this past year. Its a 1980...I'm sure plenty of coke was snorted off a hookers ass while riding this thing when it was new. Actually probably not.

While in Columbus, OH helping my dad at an art show this weekend, I exploited the fluid schedule of the volunteer worker and paid a visit to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame museum...

An XR500 rigged up to look like a police bike for stunts for T2.






This NS750 is crazy factory race engineering. It's a CX500 motor, bored and stroked to 750, turned sideways and changed from shaft to chain drive. The carbs needed to be relocated because they hit the rider's legs. All so Honda could compete on the flat track.


The RS750, next generation of Honda flat trackers, much more elegant.


The first Honda motorcycle to be built in the US. The people of Ohio have a LOT of pride for their Honda plant.







All in all it was a good visit. Definitely Harley and Honda centric, and definitely not a comprehensive history of the motorcycle, but still totally cool. If only they would let you try out the bikes...

HD Dyna SB

I'm not often a fan of Twin Cam choppers. My bike is more function than fashion for me. It gets me from A to B reliably and is comfortable and fun to ride. This is the same model/year as my Dyna and I love it... Chopping the stock rear fender on these bikes rarely looks good. Harley tried to do it on the current model of this same bike and it looks awful, but these dudes really pulled it off in my opinion. I wish I could find some other views of it though. I'll probably hate this in a week from now.
