Then on to some work. If you ever questioned that a VFR has a motor under all that plastic and hoses, here it is. Turns out it's a rather attractive V-4.
I was unaware that the VFR had air injection. It doesn't anymore.
Keepers (for now) on the left, dead weight on the right.

The reading I did suggested it forces air into the firing chambers on the exhaust stroke, which mixes with unburned fuel, utilizing the fuel instead of blowing it out the exhaust pipe. I don't really understand it but it's an emission control system, so somewhere a hippie is crying because I took it off.

That air induction is interesting. Must have hot enough exhaust gas to ignite the unused air/fuel then? Because there shouldn't be a spark on the exhaust stroke, correct? I'll have to do some reading on that... Looks like alot of shit though. I like the look of that V4 for sure...
After further reading...
Sorry, not on the exhaust stroke...just into firing chamber, on decel (vacuum actuated.) The combination of air with heated fuel vapor ignites, preventing the unburned fuel from going out the exhaust.
PAIR removal brings no performance gain or loss, maybe a pound or two of weight reduction. But it sure opens up the view of the motor.
Could it work with copper lines in place of the hoses?
It could, but I don't miss all that crap hanging off the frame.
