Herbie and beak less roosters

I was fortunate enough to get a chance to get out of my current environment for a couple days and go up to Heidelberg Germany to a conference. There was a catch. I had to brief a room full of high ranking officers. I was willing to deal with "the suck" just to get this chance...because it just so happened my daughter was back in Germany visiting friends. I haven't seen her for a couple of years due to military life. After my first day of the conference, I drove an hour and a half to head over to Ramstein/Landstuhl to pick her up and spend a few hours together. I averaged 115mph on the Autobahn and made it there in no time. It was pretty epic. We had some dinner and hung out and laughed at people...just like old times, but time ran short and I had to get up early so I headed back to the Heidelberg area later that night. The second day I gave my short brief to the officers in the afternoon and went downtown Heidelberg to check it out afterwards. Probably the most beautiful place I've ever been...and I was able to have a few beers. Here is das pictures.

No sign of Dean Jones or Lindsay Lohan...

Enjoying some looooong brats...

I was a little nervous when this crew of rough necks came rolling through...Heidelberg segway gang.

Night cap...fresh pretzel and Hefenweizen

I returned back to my deployment today and stopped to pick these up enroute from the airport. The locals pay less attention to detail and given instructions than normal people in the states do in my opinion. I've noticed a pattern here, and this is just one example. There is velcro on the back though I told them not to put velcro on it, the border was done in white though I asked for black, and this version of the rooster is completely beak less tough they had a picture to work off of. My barracks roommate said maybe the rooster is looking right at you in this version.

Updates Yo!

So I've been gone for a while...haven't really posted anything, and frankly this post has nothing to do with what most of the site is about, but its my life for a little while and I'll post up shit that I experience. I've finally made it to my destination to support freedom of movement and peace for a nation (i hope). We aren't allowed to drink or have fun most days, but one day while we were still doing training in Germany they did let us loose on the city of Nuremberg Germany before we headed over. Again not drinking, meaning not as fun as it could have been, so I walked some 20 miles and checked out most of the downtown, bought a pair of red steel toe 14-hole Doc's, and took pictures, drank lots of coffee, and ate food. I spent most of the day by myself, it was nice to get away from all of the people I'm here with all of the time and go and do what I wanted to do. Nuremberg has an interesting history and was the center of Hitlers Third Reich. The city was leveled during WW2 leaving almost 90% destroyed. Amazingly many of the old churches still stand and a castle I visited that was built in the 1200's. I was trying to make my way to the Museum for Industrial Culture which had a shit-ton of German motorcycles dating back to the beginning, but couldn't find the place to save my life.

A "real" bratwurst...or what an original one is anyway. Bratwurst can be several different types of sausage in Deutschland so I learned...not necessarily what Johnsonville would call a brat.
Some statues and art around the downtown area.
Some skateboarding stuff... Looks like a rad spot!
Lunch and dinner one day during training. The chicken pesto one sucked sack...
Anti-military protest downtown...lots of mohawks. One guy was carrying a large puppet that said "Universal Soldier" on it.
The cops on BMW's escorting the protestors...
The city...
For Tommy and Ben...in case you want to spend a 140.00 on some Lego's instead of the real deal.
The Hooger Booger...
A waste of a perfectly good Indian...just throw some lame European fashions all over it in the window of some shop.
Laters!
