The other night as I was getting all lit up at the bar I had an epiphany, a moment of clarity if you will. I decided I wanted to help contribute to the sleepy, boardering on lame motorcycle scene here in madison. But what to do? Another bike show with hand made, sharp edged trophies? ugh. Bike night at quaker steak or boularvard lanes? puhleeese bitches. Then I came across this and saw the light. The dudes in Portland just do it right. An urban enduro. A set course on all legal streets and alleys. No prizes, speed limit and laws enforced, but a challenging ride. A muddy ride ride. All bikes welcome and encouraged, but can not be afraid of getting them dirty.
These pics are from Portland.

Holy shit...that dude going through the fire (not over it) was probably treated for some burnage afterwards. Nuts. I like the idea, I just don't think my HD would go off of jumps, probably through them like the dude in the fire.
Over, under, through, it all counts ;).
May be a good time to "borrow" Corey's 550!
Okay Tom, you certainly dont have to twist my arm...i'm in for sure! Had a similar idea of urban snowmobiling. A guerrilla run from Middleton thru downtown to catch up with the trails in Sun Prairie area. All whilst the city of Madison is shut down for a major blizzard...almost did it this year but chickened out
It's amazing how fast my around town commuting trails are disappearing. They're all being turned into paved bike paths. I like bicycles, but road bikes are soooo booooring, and I hate paving stuff that wasn't paved. Man, just dip the planet in asphalt already. But anyway, I still have a few.
Are there any unpaved (gravel or dirt) roads left in Madison?
As soon as I get Trials tires for my GS I would participate.
I live in the Portland area, and while I wasn't able to make it this year, this run is a blast. Some of the neighbors hate it but it only happens once a year and it's legal so screw 'em. Excellent blog.
